Raspberry Pi Foundation introduced a new Raspberry Pi 4
The new Raspberry Pi 4 was released. No one expected the new version of the most popular single board computer to get so many improvements. From the point of view of physical design, everything remains the same: the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B looks exactly like the previous flagship Raspberry Pi 3 Model B +. It’s a tiny computer with a bunch of connectors, almost the size of a credit card.
How is the Raspberry Pi 4 better than the previous version?
Updated literally everything. SoC has become faster. The processor uses the architecture of Cortex-A72 (four core 64-bit ARMv8 with a frequency of 1.5 GHz). H.265 video hardware decoding is supported.
For many years, the Raspberry Pi “suffered” from a small amount of RAM – from 512 MB to 1 GB. Now the base model comes with 1 GB, but optionally you can buy it with 2 GB of memory or even 4 GB. The memory speed will also increase as the creators use LPDDR4 instead of LPDDR2.
As for the network connection, now this bundles a real Gigabit Ethernet (and not Ethernet via USB 2.0). This will open up many uses for servers and more. Two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports are also available. Bluetooth updated from 4.2 to 5.0.
Full-size HDMI port is “gone.” Now, instead of it, there are two micro-HDMI ports, which allows you to connect two 4K displays, showing 60 frames per second, to one Raspberry Pi. And all this for $ 35 (base model). Models with 2 GB and 4 GB of memory cost $ 45 and $ 55, respectively.
If you are a student or an applicant and want to work with the Raspberry platform – we invite you to visit the DOED department, room 405i.
