Aircraft An-225 “Mriya” moved the record cargo of medical supplies, joining the fight against COVID-19

April 14, 2020. An-225 Mriya aircraft transported a record-high cargo of medical supplies from China to the capital of Poland – Warsaw as part of the fight against the global pandemic of the coronavirus COVID-19.

On April 13, Mriya flew from Tianjin Airport in China, where it loaded about 100 tons of medicines, tests for laboratory tests, medical masks and other protective equipment, with a total volume of about 1000 m3. In the history of aviation, such a volume of cargo has never been transported inside the cargo compartment of an aircraft. After loading, the world’s largest transport aircraft made a flight to Warsaw with a landing on the route at the airport of Almaty, Kazakhstan for refueling and crew rest.

This flight was commissioned by Chapman Freeborn Airchartering Ltd (Great Britain) and became the first for the An-225 after maintenance and modernization conducted by Antonov GP specialists.

“Mriya” received a new remote control system for a Ukrainian-made power plant, new liquid-crystal devices for monitoring the operation of engines also made in Ukraine, new modern LED lighting equipment with better characteristics, more energy-saving and more reliable.

Thus, the An-225 Mriya joined the fleet of the Antonov Airlines Antonov An-124-100 aircraft, which carry out charter air transportation of humanitarian and medical supplies necessary to combat the global pandemic of the coronavirus COVID-19. Today, from the end of March, Antonova Airlines has already transported more than 1,400 tons of cargo from China to various countries in Europe, America, and the Middle East.

Vitaliy Shost, First Deputy Director of Antonova Airlines, said: “Our company is proud of the opportunity to contribute and join the fight against the global pandemic. Planning and carrying out charter flights under the current difficult quarantine conditions imposed by many countries, when there are restrictions on obtaining permits for landing and rest of crews, requires the dedicated work of all airline specialists – from businessmen and planners working in the office to pilots and technicians onboard aircraft. Therefore, I want to thank everyone who takes part in organizing humanitarian flights from China, and in particular to those who were directly involved in the flight An-225 to Warsaw. Special thanks to our customer Chapman Freeborn for their cooperation and the opportunity to complete such an important and necessary flight together. ”

Recall that the Ukrainian “Mriia” belong to more than 250 records in aviation, in particular, transportation single cargo weight of 187.6 tons, and the absolute record payloads 253.8 tons.
